El Cafetalito, nestled in the heart of Commerce, CA, is a true gem for anyone craving authentic Salvadoran cuisine. This family-owned restaurant invites you to embark on a flavorful journey steeped in tradition and warmth. The atmosphere is unpretentious and inviting, where the aroma of freshly made pupusas and simmering soups instantly transports you to the streets of El Salvador.
The menu is a vibrant celebration of Salvadoran culinary staples, and each dish is crafted with care and authenticity. Start with their famed ricas pupusas—handmade, warm, and satisfying, especially the jalapeño variety which adds a perfect hint of spice that lingers pleasantly on your palate. Alongside these, the curtido—a tangy, lightly fermented cabbage slaw—offers a delightful contrast with its crisp texture and bright flavors.
If you're exploring beyond pupusas, El Cafetalito’s Pollo En Crema deserves special mention: tender chicken bathed in a rich, creamy sauce that feels indulgent yet balanced. Their mojarra frita (fried tilapia) is a crispy, golden masterpiece, delivering fresh ocean flavors with every bite, accompanied perfectly by savory sides like yuca frita and yuca con chicharron. For those who savor bold and comforting soups, the sopa salvadoreña de patas and sopa de res are hearty, soul-warming dishes filled with tender meats and fragrant spices.
Breakfast here is an experience unto itself. Dishes like huevos revueltos con ejotes, tomate y chile verde, plátanos fritos, crema y queso come together as a colorful, flavorful medley, accompanied by creamy beans and fresh avocado. Pair your meal with a freshly brewed cup of Salvadoran coffee or indulge in their traditional warm drinks like atol de elote or hot chocolate, which feel like a comforting hug in a cup.
Customers repeatedly praise the authenticity and fair pricing. Monica Phers, a loyal patron for over 15 years, highlights the hardworking and humble nature of the family behind the scenes, which is palpable in every dish served. While some note the filling in the pupusas could be a bit heartier, the flavors remain consistently beloved and the food arrives fresh and hot—a testament to their made-to-order quality. This care in preparation may require a little patience but promises a rewarding dining experience.
Whether you’re seeking a place to indulge in a quick, satisfying meal or craving a nostalgic taste of El Salvador, El Cafetalito crafts each bite with passion and authenticity. It is a comforting spot where the soul of Salvadoran cooking shines, inviting you to savor rich flavors, warm hospitality, and a true sense of tradition.
I’ve been coming here for about 15 years, The Family that owns this restaurant are hardworking and humble people, the food to me is great the prices are fair.
Was craving some pupusas while I was in the area and this place did not disappoint. Everything we ordered had good flavor.and was hot! The only negative thing I would say (and this is reaching for something) is that the pupusas need a little more filling in them. We ordered the revueltas (and even though they were still delicious) I just wish there was a little more meat in it. Overall everything we ordered was great and I will be back next time.
Pupusas were very good. Highly recommend the jalapeño one!
If you want Salvadorean food you can definitely find it here. Sometimes it takes some time to get your food but because they cook it after you order it. It's not a place to hang out but a nice place to eat, enjoy and go
We enjoy eating pupusa very much it's our favorite Salvadoran dishes of course there's others great Salvadoran dishes we also enjoy. Our favorite Salvadoran restaurant was closed then we decided to go our other favorite Salvadoran restaurant it just near our house. We know ever Salvadoran restaurants makes their pupusas different from other Salvadoran restaurants because of the taste and the ingredients and also region of El Salvador they came from. We decided order some pupusa to go but the restaurant was very busy people dining in and take out we waiting a wait to get our meal. Our meal was real then we took it home we were surprised how big the pupusa were. Other Salvadoran restaurants make their pupusa small or medium size. It also come wirh tomatoe sauce and shredded gabbage mixed. The Pupusa was big and very cheesy then I add the tomato sauce and Cabbage mixed combine together tasted so good great flavors I can't stop eating I enjoy eating pupusa even my wife enjoy it also . Next we need to try other Salvadoran cuisine.
